GOVERNMENT has set plans to construct 6 000 clinics across the country as part of efforts to bring health care to communities, especially in rural areas, Health and Child Care Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora, has said.
He said this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the 34th session of the Junior Parliament at the new Parliament building in Mt Hampden.
The inauguration of the Junior Parliament coincided with the belated commemorations of the Day of the African Child.
“As Government, we have an ongoing programme to construct 6 000 clinics across the country, especially in rural areas so that we don’t have instances where one has to walk 5 km to the nearest clinic,” Dr Mombeshora said.
The minister said this while responding to issues raised by child parliamentarians during their plenary session.
This year’s theme is: “Ensuring universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene for every child in Africa.”
