GOVERNMENT is currently working on modalities to honour indigenous church leaders for promoting peace and social cohesion in the country.
Among those to be honoured will be the founder of the African Apostolic Church, Archbishop Paul Mwazha and Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC).
Speaking at the African Apostolic Church’s Holy Communion at Ndarikure shrine under Chief Chaka in Chirumanzu on Saturday, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Cde Victor Matemadanda said President Mnangagwa would soon honour the clergymen.
The Holy Communion coincided with Archbishop Mwazha’s 103rd birthday celebration.
Cde Matemadanda said Government was alive to the contribution of churches like VaApostora VeAfrica, Johanne Marange Apostolic Church and ZCC in promoting tranquillity.
Speaking at the same event, chairperson of the Mwazha Priesthood Council, Bishop Alfried Kushamisa Mwazha, said the leadership wrangles in the church were now a thing of the past.
“Leadership wrangles are water under the bridge. The courts have settled our disputes and Archbishop Paul Mwazha, our father, remains the sole church leader. We encourage our detractors to repent and rejoin us.”
Chief Chaka hailed the peaceful environment in his area which he said was is attributable to biblical teachings by the church.
He congratulated Archbishop Mwazha for reaching the 103-year milestone.
