Government will increase the number of vocational training centres in the country to equip youths with skills, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Tinoda Machakaire has said. Addressing thousands of youths who thronged St Barnabas in Hwedza on Sunday, Deputy Minister Machakaire, who is also Hwedza South MP, said equipping youths with skills would go a long way in fighting poverty.
“We are going to establish vocational training centres so that youths are equipped with skills to do several things,” he said.
“If we can make our own candles in the community, peanut butter and honey among other things, we can avert poverty in communities.
“That is what the President is calling for as we move to achieve Vision 2030.”
In Hwedza, Cde Machakaire said a vocational training centre would be set up at Goto Business Centre.
He said youths were future leaders and there was need for them to take a leaf from President Mnangagwa and the current leadership.
“The President has already hinted that he would add more youths in Government and we have welcomed that decision,” he said.
“Our role as youths is to make sure we support him so that we achieve Vision 2030.
“We should take a leaf from him and the current leadership.”
Cde Machakaire took a dig at corrupt officials, saying they were derailing all the efforts being put to restore sanity in the country.
“As youths, we need to know that the New Dispensation does not have room for corruption,” he said.
“This fight starts with us as the young people. I have been pleading with President Mnangagwa to flush out all corrupt individuals from Government as they derail his vision to have a middle-income economy by 2030.”
Cde Machakaire urged youths to be responsible and lead by example in the communities.
“You are aware that we got money from the President to roll out programmes,” he said.
“We urge the youths to be responsible when we get into those projects. We want you to do your best so that we can develop our communities. That’s what our President has been calling for.”
