Govt to set up mineral exploration company

Cabinet approved the draft framework for setting up the company last year.

Deputy Minister Chimanikire said the company would be a joint venture between the Government and a private investor.

“We want to put it up before the third quarter of the year and it will be a partnership between Government and an investor.

“We have received a lot of inquiries from companies who want to partner us. We now want to act on the issue once and for all,” he said.

The absence of extensive exploration work has resulted in the country failing to determine                 the extent of its entire mineral wealth.

In many cases the Government has become aware of the existence of mineral deposits after illegal miners invaded an area as happened with diamonds in Marange and recently gold in Shamva. — New Ziana.
