The Government says it is committed to improve the status of Danhiko Vocational Training Centre which provides a wide range of programmes inclined towards practical learning. Programmes offered at the vocational centre are an important anchor of psychomotor skills especially to the physically challenged students. In this case, the introduction of psychomotor will go a long way improving the lives of the handicapped students in various vocational training institutions in the country.
Speaking at Danhiko Vocational Training Institution during the school’s 9th Graduation ceremony yesterday, Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Development Minister Dr Olivia Muchena commended President Mugabe for recognising and promoting the use of technical skills through the introduction of the Department of Psychomotor Skills in Government.
“Our President is well educated and knows where world trends are going,” said Minister Muchena adding, “He had seen how we are lagging behind in the promotion of technical expertise hence the introduction of psychomotor skills development.”
She said the attainment of university degrees could not work alone to achieve the much needed economic growth that countries like Zimbabwe were seeking to attain.
Minister Muchena congratulated staff at Danhiko for the high level of dedication as reflected by the attainment of a 97 percent pass rate. She commended the students for their resilience despite the handicaps they have and said Government was committed to raising the status of such institutions.
“This graduation should be raised to the status it deserves so that people are exposed, educated and can learn to integrate with those who are physically challenged.
“This institution deserves to be a higher level institution because it is doing a great service to the nation, we need to make resources available so that committed volunteers can excel for they have shown commitment,” she said.
About 95 students graduated with certificates and diplomas in wood technology, electronics and clothing design.
