THE Government is working towards providing a competence-driven education for a socially and economically empowered society by 2030, said a representative from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary education Mrs Tracy Machemutsa, the Mutare District schools’ inspector.
Speaking during a dialogue to take stock on education support from the Multi-sectoral perspective, Mrs Machemutsa said the ministry’s mission was to provide a Zimbabwean citizenry with inclusive, quality, equitable, relevant and a competence-driven primary and secondary education
“A competence-driven education focuses on developing specific skills, knowledge, abilities, and attitudes known as competencies, in pupils. Unlike traditional education systems that may emphasise rote memorisation or subject-specific knowledge, a competence-driven approach aims to equip pupils with the practical skills and capabilities they need to succeed in various aspects of life, including academic pursuits, career paths, and personal development.”
Mrs Machemutsa said the ministry’s focus was on providing equal access to quality, inclusive, relevant, transformative 21st Century and holistic Primary, Secondary and Non-Formal Education.
She also added that the Ministry was committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and dispositions necessary to contribute meaningfully to society and drive the nation towards sustainable development.
