THERE was drama at Murongwe Primary School in Mberengwa East when a Grade Seven pupil was rushed to a nearby clinic after experiencing labour pains during a Grade 7 General Paper examination.

Remarkably, the 14-year-old girl after giving birth to a bouncing baby girl went on to complete her examination while under invigilation at Murongwe Clinic where she is now admitted.

A source from the school who spoke to B-Metro said drama started after the invigilators realised the girl was in agony before they informed their supervisors who indicated she should be taken to the clinic.

It is reported that when the girl was taken to the clinic the teachers didnat know that she was pregnant until nurses at the health institution broke the shocking news to them.

a?It was around 10am when pupils had just started writing their General Paper examination when the girl developed labour pains. She could not continue with the examination because of excruciating pain.

a?The girl told the invigilators that she was having stomach cramps before being escorted by two teachers to the clinic where it was discovered that she was experiencing labour pains and was about to give birth.

a?On that very day in the evening she later gave birth to a bouncing baby girl and the school authorities allowed her to finish her General Paper exam the following day and write another paper while at the clinic where she is currently admitted,a? said the source who preferred anonymity for fear of reprisals.

The source further said the girlas parents were suspecting their neighbouras son who is in Form Three at Rengwe Secondary School was the one responsible for their daughteras pregnancy.

When contacted for comment Mberengwa District Education Officer Mr Easywell Sibanda said he was not at liberty to comment before he referred all questions to Midlands provincial education director Agnes Gudo who confirmed the matter.

a?Although I am yet to receive what exactly transpired I can confirm that I received information to the effect that there was a girl from Murongwe Primary School who gave birth during an examination and that she is currently hopsitalised while finishing her examinations,a? she said.
