EIGHTY-THREE soldiers drawn from various units graduated at One Brigade Headquarters in Bulawayo last Friday after completing a four-month course in general squad drill and small arms handling.Speaking during the graduation, the commander of Bulawayo District, Colonel Exsebious Tshuma, urged graduates to continue furthering their studies to guarantee national security.
“The knowledge and skills acquired in this course are just but the beginning of your career progression.
“The combination of general squad drill and small arms in this course is a positive development that is aimed at widening your knowledge as you will be expected to drill your squads and teach them on small weapons,” said Col Tshuma
He commended the discipline shown by the graduates during the course of their study as the programme demanded lot of discipline.
“In all the best armies ever known in this world, discipline plays a pivotal role, therefore good discipline in conjunction with loyalty is a guarantee of preservation of national integrity and sovereignty,” he said.
Col Tshuma encouraged graduates to utilise the land to boost the country’s economy.
“I want to urge you to put into use the land you acquired during the land reform programme to ensure growth of our economy.
“Rather than relaxing, I urge you to go and work hard on the fields to increase production,” said Col Tshuma.
He said as the military they are optimistic about the country’s economy.
“It is our hope that the economy will continue to improve and allow us a chance to plan and budget as it was in the past years,” said Col Tshuma.
He praised the graduates for completing the demanding course.
He also presented awards to three best students in weapon handling and squad drilling.
