FORMER Highlanders forward Graham Ncube has set his sights on reviving his career in the Premiership following his move to Chicken Inn this season. Ncube switched to the Gamecocks last week, on a one-year deal after impressing coach Joey Antipas. The striker had spent the last part of 2013 playing for Bantu Rovers in Division One after he was offloaded by the Bulawayo giants during the mid-season transfer window to make way for new acquisitions.
Ncube, who finished among the Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year finalists and Bosso’s top goal scorer in 2011 before falling out of favour with coach Kelvin Kaindu, yesterday spoke about his excitement at the opportunity to start again.
“These things happen in football but for me I just have to pick myself up and continue with my football career here at Chicken Inn. I think it’s a good move for me.
“I feel welcome and wanted because the club approached me. So as a player, I will just have to do my job and make sure that I repay their faith in me.
“I am happy to start afresh and I am hoping to blossom and become the old Graham Ncube that people knew in the last two or three seasons,” he said.
Chicken Inn coach Antipas said he is looking to compete for honours this season after adding four players to his side.
The Gamecocks have since signed another striker Ishmael Lawe and defenders Passmore Bernard and Morgen Mungombe.
The Gamecocks, however, look set to lose prized possession — Kuda Mahachi — who has been strongly linked with a move to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
The club has also decided against renewing the contract of defender Zephaniah Ngodzo while goalkeeper Njabulo Nyoni has crossed the floor to join Highlanders.
“We want three more players to beef up our squad.
“The negotiations are taking place at the moment but I cannot reveal the names of the players. Our preparations are now in their third week and things are taking shape. I believe we have got more balance this year.
“As for Kuda (Mahachi), he was no doubt an exciting player that any coach would need in his team. We are going to miss him,” said Antipas.
