A HARARE man was taken to court by his mother-in-law after failing to pay maintenance for his minor child.

Lindiwe Nharaunda demanded $70 000 from her son-in-law, Tazvita Nhundu, who has failed to obtain a birth certificate for his son, who will be doing Grade 7 next year.

She told the court that Tazvita is employed as a car salesman and can meet her demands such as food and school fees.

“My grandson is going to Grade 7 next year and the fees have gone up.

“As we speak, my grandson doesn’t have a birth certificate, but his father buys and sells vehicles for a living.”

Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini granted Lindiwe’s wish by default.
