Poor performance at school by a 15-year-old girl in Chitungwiza has unearthed a case of sexual abuse by her 77-year-old uncle three years ago when she was in grade seven. The girl, now in Form 3 in the dormitory town, disclosed the sexual abuse to her female teacher on October 2 this year. This was after the teacher discovered that the minor’s performance at school was getting worse and she had a withdrawn character.
Her aunt’s husband allegedly committed the offence when he was 74 years, while the girl was12. It is alleged that sometime in March 2012, the girl was staying with her aunt and uncle in Chitungwiza.
On the fateful day it is alleged that the man’s wife and their daughter-in-law visited their relative in the same town leaving the two at home.
The uncle allegedly called the minor into the dining room where he was cleaning furniture. She obliged and helped him do the chores. The court heard that the man allegedly closed the door and undressed, much to the girl’s surprise. He allegedly grabbed and placed her on the sofa and raped her.
