A Mutare elderly woman last week dragged her grandson to court as she was applying for a protection order against him.

Tinotenda Chinhema (24) is currently on remand for allegedly assaulting his grandmother, Gogo Ester Chinhema, as well as his siblings.

Tinotenda is allegedly abusing drugs and is also in the habit of stealing money from his grandmother.

He promised to reform.

“I am still growing up and its part of growing up.

“I will reform because I have realised my mistakes. This will never happen again,’’ he said.

In her ruling, Mutare magistrate, Ms Purity Gumbo granted the protection order in Gogo Chinhema’s favour.

The order bars Tinotenda from harassing and assaulting her.

If the protection order is breached, it will lead to Tinotenda’s arrest.

Ms Gumbo also ruled that since Tinotenda is now an adult, he should consider looking for his own accommodation.
