AN elderly woman has been forced to sleep outside her house for the past three days due to a dispute with a lawyer who has not vacated a house in Cranborne, Harare.
Agnes Mukunyadze, 75, fell out with lawyer Zvidzai Kajokoto after her son gave him three months’ notice to find alternative accommodation.
Kajokoto, who has turned part of the house into the offices of his law firm Kajokoto and Company, requested for an extension, stating he was unable to find another place to stay at the moment.
However, she now claims he did not pay rent amounting to US$950 for March and April.
Kajokoto has denied the allegations, stating that he never exerted any undue influence.
He even claims to have offered Mukunyadze a room in the house.
“I was given notice and I wrote a letter requesting an extension, but I never used any power as alleged,” said Kajokoto.
“In fact, I opened a room yesterday for the elderly woman to stay,” he said.
Gogo Agnes told H-Metro that she was still exposed to the cold weather conditions.
“Kajokoto is threatening me with legal action.
“I caught a cold and I am now suffering from flu after sleeping outside the house for the past three days.
“My son gave him notice to leave after I was also given notice to leave from where I was renting in Queensdale.
“It is my prayer that Kajokoto reconsiders and respects the notice he was given as well as respects my age,” said Gogo Agnes.
In his letter, dated March 26, 2025, Kajokoto wrote:
“We understand that our notice is expiring on the 15th of April 2025 so we write to advise that we have secured office space elsewhere, which will only be available by the 1st of May 2025.
“So, we will only be able to vacate the premises by the 30th of April 2025.
“We will also settle the April full rentals before vacation of the premises.”
