Granny ‘dies, resurrects’

A 57-YEAR-OLD woman claimed to have experienced the Lazarus moment after “she died and resurrected” at her home because of her troublesome grandson whom she now wants to be evicted by the courts.
Georginah Tsoka from Kensington in Bulawayo also fell unconscious in the Civil Court while narrating her ordeal.
Bulawayo magistrate Ms Evenly Mashavakure looked surprised and uncomfortable. Ms Mashavakure asked whether Tsoka wanted to be taken to hospital but she remained quiet. The court stood still for a few minutes before Tsoka suddenly gained consciousness and told the court she had once died and resurrected owing to her grandchild’s abusive behaviour.

“I am here because of my grandchild who is very troublesome,” she said. “I want him evicted from my house. I cannot continue staying with him. Recently, I died and resurrected after he sold my door. If it wasn’t for my child, I could not be here. I am diabetic but Partson has exacerbated my condition.”

The grandmother added that she was being emotionally abused by the respondent who failed to attend the court session.

In her affidavit, Tsoka said: “Partson Munzara is a son to my late sister. The respondent does not respect me. If he gets drunk he threatens and insults me and everyone in the house. The respondent sold my door without my permission. He is very violent and he always attempts to beat my son. When I am not around he opens my doors using a wire to gain entrance. With all this, he is emotionally and physically abusing me.”

Ms Mashavakure said she does not have the power to evict the respondent. She, however, ordered that the respondent should not physically or emotionally abuse the applicant. She said the two must maintain peace between each other.
