A 60-YEAR-OLD woman allegedly poisoned a four-year-old girl to death over a petty dispute about goats that destroyed her crops.
Police have arrested Violet Gamera (60), Chamunorwa Kwanga (60) and Regina Tavengerarwei (30) in connection with the gruesome murder of little Sabina Maziva, from Mandinyenya Village, Bikita.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, tragedy struck on 1 October 2025 when Gamera allegedly fed the child poisoned rice as revenge against her parents. The toddler began vomiting soon after eating and was rushed to a nearby clinic, but her condition worsened and she died on 5 October 2025.
She was buried on 8 October, Villagers began suspecting foul play during the burial and reported the matter to Chief Ziki, who ordered the family to alert the police.
“Following investigations, Violet Gamera implicated Chamunorwa Kwanga as the person who advised her to poison the child,” police said. “She further implicated Regina Tavengerarwei as the supplier of the poison.”
Detectives later recovered rat poison and a liquid cotton pesticide, believed to have been used in the killing. The girl’s body has since been exhumed and taken to Silveira Mission Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi expressed disgust over the shocking act.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police strongly condemns criminal acts and cruelty in society, especially those that endanger the lives of innocent children,” he said. “We urge members of the public to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means.”
