A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for allegedly anally raping a 73year old granny at knife point while she was on her way to her fields in Old Pumula suburb in Bulawayo.

Bhekinkosi Maseko of Mazwi village allegedly raped the old woman as she was walking towards her field which is between Old Pumula suburb and Robert Sinyoka village. Maseko appeared before magistrate Abednico Ndebele and was not asked to plead.

He was remanded in custody to January 26.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza told the court that on October 9, 2015, at around 9AM the woman was walking alone to her fields.

“As the complainant was walking towards her field she met the accused person who grabbed her from behind. The accused person then produced a knife from his pocket and dragged the complainant off a footpath where he removed her panties,” said Mageza.

“Accused person then had anal intercourse once with the complainant without her consent and without using protection.”

The prosecutor said the complainant was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical examination and a medical report can be produced in court as an exhibit. Last year in February, a then 35-year-old man was arrested in Gwanda for raping a 91- year-old granny. In court, he pleaded guilty and claimed that he had not known that the woman was that old as she was attractive.

Nicholas Ndlovu said on the day he committed the crime, the woman was wearing a mini skirt and looked much younger.

Asked if he was not afraid of the possibility of contracting sexually transmitted diseases by not using a condom, he said: “It never crossed my mind.”
