FORMER Zimbabwe captain Graeme Cremer is back playing cricket again in the country and is set to play for Takashinga Patriots 1 in the forthcoming fifth edition of the National Premier League (NPL).
The 38 year old leg spinner, who put his career on hold in 2018 joins the star studded Highfield based club that also has the likes of Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, Richard Ngarava, Tanaka Chivanga, Blessing Muzarabani and
Hamilton Masakadza in their ranks.
The 2025 NPL is scheduled to get underway on Saturday with matches spread across the country.
Cremer is tipped for a comeback to international cricket as Zimbabwe prepares for a home World Cup in 2027.
The former skipper was, last week, spotted at the national team’s practice session at Harare Sports Club having a conversation with assistant coach Deon Ebrahim.
Meanwhile, it will be brother versus brother at Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) when Amakhosi Cricket Club 1 and 2 face off in the season opener on Saturday.
Amakhosi 1, who have played in all the NPL editions to date, qualified after finishing second in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) First League, behind Queens Sports Club. Amakhosi 2 secured their place in country’s premier club cricket competition via a play-off where they beat Matabeleland North’s Mosi Titans.
It will be Amakhosi 2’s maiden appearance in the competition.
Queens Sports Club will get their campaign up and running with a clash against Takashinga Patriots 1 at Kwekwe Sports Club on Sunday.
In other matches lined up for the opening week, on Saturday, Westside will be up against Takashinga 2 at Mutare Sports Club while Methane Lions host Gladiators at Masvingo Sports Club. Mbizo will be up against Rangers at
Kwekwe Sports Club with Alexandra Sports Club hosting Eastern Titans at Alex Sports Club.
In the other match lined up for Sunday, Chiredzi Cricket Club will be up against Rimuka at Masvingo Sports Club.
