THE three-day local premier cycling event, Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke that is organised by YAFM in partnership with Nedbank and platinum mining companies Unki, Mimosa and Zimplats, is scheduled for October 26 at Zimplats Complex in Sealous, Harare.

The event is scheduled to see professional and amateur cyclists seek to out do each other in a race that is expected to bring thrills and spills on all legs of the event that will run for three days.

“The 2023 edition of the premier cycling event, the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke organised by YAFM in will kick off from the Zimplats Complex in Selous on Thursday the 26th of October 2023. The event will be held over three days and will see professional and amateur cyclists cover over three hundred kilometres from Sealous that will take them through Chegutu, Kadoma, Kwekwe, Gweru, Shurugwi and Zvishavane,” read a statement from the organisers of the occasion released yesterday.

Over 300 cyclists are expected to participate in this year’s event that will run under the theme “Cycling for wellness, opportunity and charity.”

It was disclosed that the cyclists, who will be drawn from all the four corners of the country, will be expected in the capital a day before the event.

Part of the proceeds from the race will be used to support the charitable needs of the Gifted Children Foundation which assists underprivileged but talented learners along the Great Dyke.

“To date the Foundation has supported over 100 learners at various levels from primary to tertiary education,” they said.

Tour de Great Dyke was launched in 2016 to promote miner wellness, love for the environment and raise awareness of the investment opportunities in the Great Dyke geological complex which is home to the country’s major mining houses such as Mimosa, Unki, Zimplats, Zimasco, Afrochine and Great Dyke Investments.

Last year’s race was run under theme “Riding for Sustainability.”

It was an edition that saw Nedbank Zimbabwe come on board to partner the event as one of the title sponsors. —@FungaiMuderere
