Arenel open eight-point gap

THE Zifa Southern Region Division One Log leaders Arenel Movers prevailed in a potential title winning match last Saturday after they defeated second placed ZPC Hwange 1-0 away from home thanks to Leroy Ndlovu’s solitary goal.

Ndlovu, however, says there is still a long way to go despite his team opening a good gap at the top.

They went into the match with a five-point lead and were looking to continue with their unbeaten run and impressive defensive record which has seen them concede only two goals in 23 league matches.

It was the 22-year-old Chicken Inn loanee’s goal which was the difference in the match which was deemed by many as the one which will decide the championship.

Despite having an eight-point lead, Ndlovu said that it is important that he and his team remain focused up to the conclusion of the league.

“We have opened a gap which is very good for us and puts us in a good position, but we can never relax. We have seen it so many times when teams relax and in a very short time, things change. I am happy for the guys, especially the much more experienced ones who believe in me, which in turn gives me confidence to keep going. We are almost there but it is very important to understand that it is still not yet over, two or three weeks can change a lot in football,” said Ndlovu.

His side will not be in action in the next round of matches as the team they were scheduled to face, Makhandeni Pirates, are out of the league as financial challenges hindered them from participating. Arenel are therefore guaranteed three points and three goals.

ZPC will also be handed the same as they were scheduled to face Mountain Climbers, a team that pulled out of the league due to similar financial challenges.
