Elsewhere in Harare, reggae/dancehall singer Winky D aka the Ninja President is battling it out with Marxist Brothers frontman Tryson Chimbetu at New Life Night Club in Budiriro. The “Musarova Bigman” hitmaker is facing stiff competition from other dancehall chanters, namely Guspy Warrior, Freeman and Sniper Storm.

Winky D used to stage shows every weekend, but now that there are many more talented chanters, promoters have a wide selection to choose from.

Jah Prayzah and Suluman Chimbetu will perform back to back at Hwenge’s Village on Sunday. The duo will share the stage during the family show.

Jah Prayzah is rocking the airwaves with his hit “Tsviriyo” while Suluman’s “Sean Timba” is likely to generate a lot of heat among fans.

Little-known sungura artiste Herbert Majeke is expected to perform songs from his latest album “Masango” at the Emm-Glo Bar and Restaurant. The musician will be showcasing his talents when he performs tracks such as “Chibhebhi” and “Benzi Bvunza”.

Meanwhile, yesteryear great Patrick Mkwamba is working on his six-track album titled “Call Me Back” at Gramma Records.

The “Bhonasi” hitmaker, who is now based in Rusape, arrived in Harare early this week for the recording.

“I came here on Monday to record the album. It has been long since I gave the people a hit and the album is going to give my fans something to cheer about,” he said.

It remains to be seen if the man who was synonymous with classics like “Bhonasi”, “Muri Tsotsi Mkoma”, “Ramba Murume, and “Usambonyara Kusekwa” still has his touch.

The Herald Entertainment caught up with the veteran musician at a friend’s home in Hopley Farm where he was rehearsing with the Season’s Band.

“We are fine-tuning our songs. People know me for releasing big tunes, but this is going to be the biggest of them all,” he said.

Asked to pick his best song, Mkwamba said: “Though people dance to the song ‘Bhonasi’ every year, for me ‘Usambonyara Kusekwa’ is my all-time great. I know that the song ‘Call Me Back’ on this album is going to surpass all of my other songs.”
