GREEN FUEL exacted revenge on Yadah, who handed them their first defeat in the top-flight in the reverse fixture played at the National Sports Stadium in March, by thumping them 2-0 at Gibbo Stadium yesterday.

Second-half goals by Collins Dhuwa and Raymond Uchena ensured Rodwell Dhlakama’s boys walked away with maximum points.

There was very little to separate the two sides during yesterday’s first half, with Yadah’s best chance falling to Marvelous Faranando, when he caught the hosts’ goalkeeper David Bizabani off-guard in the 29th minute.

His effort, however, could only find the post and ricocheted back into Bizabani’s safe hands.

Green Fuel’s top marksman, Nqobile Ndlovu, did not fare any better after blazing his effort over the bar from close range, having been set up by Bukhosi Sibanda in the 36th minute.

Dhlakama’s boys did, however, come back the stronger side in the second half, playing purposeful football and refusing to be bullied by the visitors, as 18-year-old Naison Takawira showed his qualities in the middle of the park.

Dhuwa broke the deadlock with a fantastic finish following an initial save by Yadah goalkeeper Panashe Nyabunga in the 54th minute.

The Green Fuel midfielder then won his side a spot-kick on the hour mark after his effort was handled inside the box.

Uchena stepped up to convert the resultant penalty, doubling both his season tally and his team’s lead.

Yadah FC coach Expense Chitukutuku thought it was a good game.

“It was a good game and a tough encounter, but we let them win in the second half.

“We failed to clear an easy ball and they capitalised on that mistake.

“It’s a marathon; when you fall, you need to get up and walk again,” he said.

Dhlakama feels his side has improved a lot since he took charge.

“It was a tough game by any measure,” said Dhlakama.

“We had a pathetic first half and I had to speak to the boys during the interval.

“Luckily, they shifted gears, came back more determined and we scored a goal.

“When the second one came, it was all about game management after that.

“We could have won by a wider margin if we converted the chances we created, but what is important at this juncture is to collect maximum points.”
