Green Studio is screened on ZBC TV 1 as well as Channel 280 on DStv every Wednesday starting at 7pm. Quite honestly, I have been following this programme with keen interest since it is aimed at preserving the environment, healthy living and what have you. One of the things that captured my attention was how an environmental programme could be as exciting as any other reality show.
Hosted by Blessed Mufandaidza, one of the experienced and creative presenters, and musician Stach Chitsiga of the “Amasiko” fame, the show is a step in the right direction insofar as “going green” is concerned. I am told, the colour green represents life and the theme is “A better life for you, a better life for me”.
Last week I took time to go behind the scenes and spoke to the two presenters who have livened up ZBC TV’s prime time viewing slot.
“We are a lifestyle television programme whose main objective is to educate and entertain our targeted audience, family, hence our chosen genre of edutainment. The 30-minute show covers issues to do with the environment, health, business/education and community development,” Mufandaidza said.
Sponsored by CellOne Electronics, the structure of our show is in three segments, the first is an in-depth report or viewer engagement interviews on a particular chosen topic to set the tone for the discussion.
In the second segment, an expert is invited on the episode topic to give an insight and solutions to some of the problems raised.
Last but not least, the third segment hosts a popular public figure who plays the Green Studio Challenge, a game show where they get to answer questions derived from the episode topic. This gives the audience an entertaining and highly engaging opportunity to recap on the issues discussed on that show.
Previous episodes touched on litter bugs and asked the question whose responsibility is it to keep our environment clean? According to Mufandaidza, people have lost the culture of cleanliness as evidenced by litter everywhere and there is no form of recycling.
One of the experts featured on the show was Environment Africa country director Barney Mawire as well as celebrity guests among them Hazvinei “DJ Chilli” Sakarombe, former Star Kids presenter Tinevimbo Chimbetete and dancehall star Sniper Storm and ZiFM Stereo presenter Abra Simz.
In a related matter, Green Studio has introduced a viewer competition in which viewers stand to win prizes courtesy of CellOne Electronics in the form of cellphones, laptops, plasma TVs and tablets.
Mufandaidza said CellOne Electronics had partnered the Green Studio Challenge by giving away a weekly prize for the next nine weeks to add value to the television programmers and attract more viewers.
He said as part of the partnership, CellOne Electronics will also be taking Green Studio to the people by going out on community outreach programmes and road shows with the television show where the viewers will get to interact with the CellOne Electronics brand, the presenters of the show, the expert guests as well as other celebrities who have been guests on the Green Studio Challenge.
“The gesture by CellOne Electronics adds value to the programme and gives us the confidence to continue producing more educative episodes of the popular show. Viewers are urged to like the television show’s Facebook page @Green Studio Zim to receive exclusive behind the scenes footage and pictures as well as to stand a chance to win fabulous prizes courtesy of CellOne Electronics,” he said.
