The medical aid societies were expected to renew their licences after complying with stipulated regulations including paying service providers their dues in excess of 60 days.
A visit to GreenCard offices in the city centre yesterday bore witness to the closure as the screen doors had padlocks. GreenCard Medical Aid Society chief executive officer Mr Simon Tapfumaneyi confirmed the society’s closure. Close to 3 000 people were on GreenCard Medical Aid Society.
“We are making arrangements to refund members who were still on the waiting period.
Members who had already passed the waiting stage period will get membership certificates so that they will not go through the period when joining another scheme,” Mr Tapfumaneyi said.
He said the society was still in the process of advising all its members of the latest developments and the way forward.
