GREENFUEL’S fight for survival comes down to one match, one afternoon, and one final push.

Midfielder Garikai Dematsika has challenged his teammates to give it their best shot when they take on Triangle in their final game on Sunday.

This is no ordinary fixture.

It is a straight shootout that will decide who stays up.  Greenfuel must win to live another day in the PSL while Triangle can scrape through with a draw.

Nothing about this battle is simple.

Eight teams remain stuck in a desperate relegation scramble, a congested mess that includes Manica Diamonds, Bikita Minerals, Yadah, Dynamos, Chicken Inn and Highlanders.

Greenfuel sit 16th on 36 points, a single step behind Triangle, who hold 14th place with 37.

The numbers suggest peril but recent form tells another story.

Greenfuel have taken eight points from their last five games, a run that has revived belief in Chisumbanje. Triangle have collected only five over that stretch.

“We will turn our fortunes around, there is belief and trust in the squad that we can pull out this one,” said Dematsika.

Everything the club has fought for this season now leads into one tense ninety minute fight.

Anything short of victory ends their stay in the top-flight. “It needs heart and mental strength. We have to fight and battle for the good cause.

“It can be done, but we are working to be at our best on the day,” he said.

Dematsika insists the team understands the threat Triangle pose, and the plan is to stay disciplined and united. “Triangle can cause problems for us but as a squad we are aware of what we have to do.

“We seek to be compact and solid moving as a block and not to allow them to play a free-flowing passing game.  But the whole idea is not on focusing on the opponent, it’s all about us executing our tactics well and playing to our strength which I am very optimistic will bring the much needed result.”

He added: “Our fans have been exceptional since day one and we call upon them to come in their numbers and rally behind the team at this crucial moment.”
