Greg Bentley misses out

ZIMBABWEAN golfer Greg Bentley failed to make the field for the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open set for Royal Cape Golf Club after being eliminated from the pre-qualifier yesterday
Bentley — who has been taking part in several Sunshine Big Easy Tour events this year — missed out on one of the 10 places that were up for grabs after finishing the pre-qualifying round in 12th place.

The pre-qualifier was won by South African Sergio Dias, who finished on level par, while Welsh Staurt Clark and another South African Gregg Upton, were tied on one over-par after the single round. The other remaining eight places up for grabs went to Stuart Smith of Botswana, South Africans Ben Fouchee, James Wade, Thomas Lovett and Blanche Lamprecht, Namibian Ruan Huysamen and Swaziland’s Raymond Mathosi.

Ryan Cairns will now be the only Zimbabwean flying the country’s flag at the tournament when it tees off tomorrow.
Cairns — who finished 20th at the BMG Classic at Glendower Golf Club two weeks ago — will be expected to carry his fine form into the tournament.
