COMEDIAN Blessing “Mbudziyadhura” Chimhowa has teamed up with Taurai “Gringo” Boora for a new project to penetrate the international market.
The two, known for quick wit and sharp humour, are set to bring their unique brand of comedy to the big screen.
In an interview with Zimpapers Entertainment Hub, Mbudziyadhura said the drama promises to be a heart-warming and hilarious ride, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and touching scenes of vulnerability and growth. Mbudziyadhura, known for his one-liners, and Gringo, with his sarcastic charm, are drawing from their own experiences to craft a story that is both relatable and entertaining. “We are having a blast working on this project. We are pushing each other to be funnier and more creative with every line. We still have not put a title on the movie,” he said.
“The target audience has been the late Gringo’s audience, of which we are also trying to broaden our audience in the sense that we are going to be putting subtitles on our movie so that anyone can actually watch and understand what will be going on. We are also aiming to penetrate the international market, despite our usual audience, we want to broaden as well.”
Mbudziyadhura, who doubles as a master of ceremonies at weddings and parties, said people were now accepting the late Gringo’s son for who he is. “The reception has been, what I can say, exceptional. People are beginning to now take Gringo and understand him for who he is. He’s not the original Gringo but is the best thing that can come out of Gringo.
“When we talk of Gringo, we are looking at his facial features, his voice too much stuff like that, so people have been receiving him so well, and we are grateful for the support that we have been getting.
“When we are doing something, when we are shooting a movie or drama or a skit, we try and do our best to beat the previous levels. But as you know, people have their own taste.
“When we are shooting a movie or drama, we try our best to beat the previous levels. So, about the movie we are working on, I can tell you that we are doing our level best. But if we don’t beat the previous levels, we won’t be able to make it to the next level. We are thankful to the people who have been supporting us through thick and thin.” The duo has worked together on a couple of projects that include “The return of Gringo” series, which is available on YouTube and has up to 13 episodes.
It had the likes of Gweshegweshe, Godobori, Mbudziyadhura and the late Stellah January.
