Gringo series premiere lives up to expectations

THERE was pomp and fanfare at Ster-Kenakor Joina City as television producers and film directors brought back the Gringo series to life.

Dubbed “The Return of Gringo”, Taurai “Gringaldino” Boora, the son of the late veteran actor Lazarus “Gringo” Boora was seen trying to fill the void his father left.

Boora died in 2020.

In the new production, Taurai worked with some of the actors who were part of the original “Gringo” cast.

They include William “Gweshegweshe” Matenga, Chati “Butao” Godobori, Blessing “Mbudziyadhura” Chimhowa and Stella “Mukadzi Wemusika” January.

In attendance were top film-makers, including Ben Mahaka, Joe Njagu, Stewart Sakarombe, Bhutisi, just to name a few.

The series was penned by Enock Chihombori, who drew inspiration from the previous production Gringo.

“It is an honour to work with Gringaldino, his father was a hardworking man.

“Him having his father’s features make it easier.

“We hope that the series has the same impact Gringo series had,” said Chihombori.

Darlington Mutsvairi, from Darlington Media, which was responsible for the production, said:

“It is not hard working with Gringaldino as he is very passionate about his work.

“Gringo is a brand that has been a household name for quite some time and the fans still need more of this production.

“We are definitely going to tour the whole country, to stamp the return of Gringo but we are yet to set dates for the tour.

“It will be on TV, probably on every Television Station that is willing to work with us.

“We are happy to say, we have most of the many visible characters in the previous GRINGO edition like Gweshegweshe, Godobori, Mbudziyadhura and Stellah January.

“Taurai Boora took up his father’s role of GRINGO and he is doing equally good.”
