A woman claims that her husband repeatedly attacks her with an axe handle over an unresolved groceries dispute.
Nyasha Koranga appeared before Magistrate Meenal Naratom seeking a protection order against her husband Itai Munhukwa for attacking her.
She stated that her husband is in the habit of attacking her with an axe handle after she had ap-plied for an upward variation at the maintenance court.
“On August 9, he assaulted me with an axe handle after l had dragged him to the maintenance court seeking an upward variation.
“Each time he assaults me, he claims that one day he is going to kill me.”
She also alleged that Itai kept weapons, including an axe, machete, and lawn mower, which he us-es to intimidate her.
“He keeps an axe, machete, and lawn mower which he uses to threaten me.
“On December 21, he threatened to kill me with a machete and he bribes the police whenever l makes a report.
“Sometimes he insults my private parts.”
In response, Itai denied using weapons to threaten Nyasha, claiming he used them for his busi-ness, instead alleged that Nyasha was the aggressor.
“I do not use an axe and a lawn mower to threaten my wife but l use it in my business.
“She is the one who attacks me after failing to provide food for the children and leaving the chil-dren unattended.
“She is before the court seeking protection because she wants to avoid me confronting her about our children’s wellbeing.
“She hits me if I use the groceries.”
Despite Itai’s denials, the court granted Nyasha a protection order, recognising the severity of the situation and the need to ensure safety.
