Grooves – the band the apprentices formed

CONCERNS over the safety of workers in the Midlands have inspired Afro-fusion outfit Grooves Band to record their music.

The group is composed of apprentices from different engineering trades who met at the Zimbabwe Power Company in Munyati.

Band leader, Jabulani Masora, told H-Metro that they assembled the group to address safety issues at the workplace.

“Safety of workers should be prioritised as we did when we joined hands with others and came up with this idea.

“We also address issues of love, unity and freedom through our music.

“We have added an Afro-centric fusion taste in a bid to catch the hearts of many since people differ in taste.

“It is rare for one to love Afro-jazz, Afro-pop, reggae, rhumba, traditional music, etc at the same time,” said Masora.

He said they were singing various genres to cater to many people.

“We believe in music that is divorced from parental guidance.

“Last year, we recorded a song called Mushandi, which is on YouTube. The song talks about safety at the workplace.

“The group’s producer is Tari G Fingers.

“He worked hard with us to produce an amazing song which attracted a lot of attention, from the industry fraternity.” Masora added: “We are working on releasing our second single on drug abuse.

“In 2022, we won the Chibuku Road To Fame ticket to represent the Midlands province in Harare and we won US$10 000 in cash after ending up as the runners-up.

“We have toured most parts of Zimbabwe performing in restaurants, hotels, corporate events, weddings, parties, etc.”
