GUARD ACCUSED OF STEALING US$160k ON THE RUN

A WARRANT of arrest has been issued against a security guard who was on trial for stealing US$160 000 from a safe at National Foods last year, after he defaulted trial.

Edward Davirai Mudowaya has gone missing during the course of the trial where he was appearing together with his suspected accomplice Charlotte Tarisai Munetsi.

Munetsi was employed by National Foods as a cashier while Mudowaya was employed by Safeguard Security as a Close Circuit Television Monitor and was seconded at National Foods.

The court heard that between March 17 and 21 last year, Munetsi received cash from company sales amounting to  US$304 014 and kept it in the Cash Office safe instead of banking it.

On March 21, she locked the safe and placed the safe key in her drawer.

She didn’t activate the Cash Office door Alarm as per procedure.

It is the State’s case that at around midnight, Mudowaya turned off all cameras which led to the cash office.

He used an unknown object to open the Cash Office door, opened the safe and stole US$162  040.
