A SECURITY guard from Bulawayo has appeared in court for allegedly stealing 200 kilogrammes of carbon pregnant with gold worth US$26 000.
Mathew Moyo (33) who resides at Tom plot Cleremont and was employed at Talisman Mine in Hope Fountain, allegedly stole from Mr Kevin Dvuke of Sunninghill suburb who is the owner of the mine.
Moyo was not asked to plead to theft charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Nomasiko Ndlovu. He was remanded to January 6 next year on $800 bail.
Prosecuting, Mr Nkathazo Dlodlo said on Friday last week at around 6PM, Moyo was on duty at the mine.
“The accused person took advantage of the fact that he was alone and stole 200 kilogrammes of carbons pregnant with gold,” he said.
The court heard that the following day Moyo called Mr Dvuke several times asking him what time he was coming to the mine.
At around midday, Mr Dvuke allegedly told Moyo that he was on his way and upon arrival at the mine he was advised by Moyo that some property had been stolen.
Mr Dvuke allegedly made investigations and discovered that some carbon pregnant with gold was missing.
His investigations also revealed that the carbon may have been stolen by someone who had information about the mine’s operations.
Mr Dvuke reported the matter to the police and Moyo was interrogated.
What he told the police contradicted what he had told Mr Dvuke leading to his arrest. — @zinyuke98
