A BEITBRIDGE Municipality security guard has been fined US$300 after a viral video landed him in hot soup for insulting President Mnangagwa.
Ezekiel Chiradza (35) denied the charge but was convicted after a six-month trial. Beitbridge regional magistrate Charity Maphosa gave him a six-month jail term, wholly suspended on condition he pays the fine.
Prosecutor Willbrought Muleya told the court that sometime last year Chiradza recorded himself ranting about the President and the ZiG currency. He then shared the clip on social media, where it quickly spread before being flagged by community members in a WhatsApp group.
Investigations confirmed Chiradza had generated the video, leading to his arrest.
