A 40-year-old Mutare man, who was selling drugs, mainly crystal meth, commonly referred to as guka makafela, was arrested last week behind Bako Flea Market in Sakubva.
Simba Collins Mutamba of NHB section of Sakubva was arrested by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) detectives who had received a tip-off that he was dealing in dangerous drugs.
CID Manicaland District spokesperson, Detective Sergeant Shake Shanu said detectives recovered five sachets of crystal meth from Mutamba’s house and vehicle.
“On Wednesday, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit in Mutare received information that Mutamba was dealing in dangerous drugs at an open space behind Bako Flea Market.
“The detectives proceeded to the place where they found Mutamba seated behind the steering wheel of a parked vehicle.
“They identified themselves and explained their mission. Detectives searched Mutamba’s vehicle and recovered one large sachet of crystal methamphetamine concealed in the dashboard,” said Detective Sergeant Shanu.
He said Mutamba led detectives to his place of residence where four more sachets of crystal meth were in a tissue paper on top of a coffee table in his bedroom.
Mutamba was arrested and escorted to CID Mutare.
Detective Sergeant Shanu said Mutamba revealed that he gets the crystal meth supplies from Harare.
“A field test was carried out in the presence of Mutamba and the suspected drug tested positive for crystal methamphetamine.
“The drug weighed approximately 76 grams, with a street value of $760 000. Mutamba stated that he acquired the drug from a lady named Brendah in Highfield, Harare,” he said.
