Guma to captain Cranes

Johannesburg — Sports Club Victoria University utility player Denis Guma will captain the Ugandan side that embark on the Africa Nations Championship (Chan) next month. The Cranes coach, Micho Sredojevic, and his technical team have reaffirmed Guma’s leadership role after Hassan Wasswa, who captained Uganda in qualification, was recalled into the team Monday. Wasswa was initially left out since he was away in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, injury worries remain in the Cranes camp with Vipers right back Nicholas Wadada given up to the end of Monday to prove his fitness.

Wadada, who featured in the just ended Cecafa in Nairobi, has not trained since after being involved in a motorbike accident.

Another defender, Savio Kabugo, also missed Sunday’s training session with an ankle injury but his is not thought serious as he was involved in gym work on Monday. Uganda are pooled alongside Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe and 2015 Nations Cup hosts Morocco in Group C.— SuperSport.com
