Gumbo hails President

and economic empowerment drive with the aim of completing national independence.
In an interview on Tuesday, Cde Gumbo said political independence without economic independence was hollow adding that the establishment of economic organisations was a major step towards achieving total independence.
“As we commemorate Africa Day, we should reflect on what we have achieved on the economic front after political independence.
“Through the wise leadership of President Mugabe we have embarked on a mission to empower our people which will see us completing the independence.
“We cannot talk of independence when the masses are not benefiting anything.
“Political independence without economic independence is meaningless. We are grateful to President Mugabe for empowering the masses,” he said.
Cde Gumbo added that the creation of regional and continental economic institutions was a positive step towards economic independence.
“The regional blocs like Ecowas and Comesa are battling to create a sound and viable economy. The future of Africa is bright provided people understand the forces that are fighting them. Imperialists are itching to come back into Africa and plunder our resources but we are saying lets stand strong and protect our resources,” Cde Gumbo said.
