Gumbo joins Division One side Setheo

The club is based in Masvingo.

The nomadic gaffer takes over from Johannes Mhuma who was sacked by the ambitious side which is in the running for promotion and lies third on the region’s log standings with 46 points, five adrift of log leaders Triangle.

Interestingly, Gumbo’s first game in charge will be against the Lowveld-based outfit in a match which might have a bearing on the destiny of the championship.

Setheo chairman Levison Nzura confirmed that his side had indeed roped in the former Shushine midfielder to boost their chances of promotion.

“It is true that we have hired Tavaka Gumbo to take charge of the team for the remainder of the season because we believe that he is an experienced coach who can see us getting promoted at the end of the season,” Nzura said.

Gumbo said he was ready for the challenge that lies ahead.

“I am happy to be at Setheo because they are an organised and professional outfit and hopefully I will deliver the goods,” said the nomadic gaffer who has also had stints at Shabanie Mine, Hwange and former Southern Region Division One side, FC Windermere.

The dread-locked mentor, who joined Premiership side Hardbody in 2010 then in the Zifa Central Soccer League with 11 games to go during the season, coincidentally takes charge of the Masvingo-based side with the same number of matches remaining.

In 2010, Gumbo guided the busmen to fourth place before assembling an all conquering Hardbody side which gained promotion into the top flight league this year.

Gumbo was subsequently fired at Hardbody after 14 games into the season following a spate of poor results which saw him winning three games, drawing once and losing the rest of the games.
