A HARARE man appeared in court yesterday after being found in unlawful possession of a firearm he had buried at an apostolic church shrine.

Silas Mhembere, 27, was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him in custody to today for bail considerations.

Allegations are that on Sunday, detectives from CID Homicide received a tip-off that Mhembere was in possession of a pistol at his house, but he didn’t have a licence.

The police went to his house and arrested him.

He led them to an apostolic church shrine where he had buried the gun and it was recovered.

He also led police to his bedroom where they recovered two live rounds and a spent cartridge under his bed.

The police also recovered a camouflage shirt, which they believe was being used for criminal activities.
