POLICE in Mberengwa have launched an investigation after three gun totting men broke into a bedroom hut and shot dead an 18-year-old man.
The man was sleeping in the hut with five other relatives.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the motive for the fatal shooting of Oppress Nsingo in the early hours of Thursday at Village Seven, Chief Bvute was still to be established.
He told Chronicle: “Oppress Nsingo (18 ) was at his aunt’s homestead in Village Seven under Chief Bvute when three men who were armed with a rifle forced their way into a bedroom hut he was sleeping in with five other relatives.
While inside the bedroom hut, the suspects who had torches went on to open blankets checking on the faces of each of the people who were sleeping.”
Insp Mahoko said when one of the suspects focused the torch on Nsingo he notified the other suspects before they went on to drag Nsingo out of the blankets.
The suspects then pushed Nsingo against the wall.
“One of the suspects shot Nsingo with the rifle once on the chest before they bolted out.
Nsingo tried to chase after the suspects but fell to the ground and died on the spot,” said Insp Mahoko.
He appealed for assistance from members of the public to provide information that might help the police to track down the suspects.
