MAPUTO — A top wanted gang leader, suspected of murdering a prison director and masterminding a string of kidnappings, was killed by unidentified gunmen in a cruel manner on the outskirts of the capital Maputo, state media reported yesterday. Bernardo Timana, driving his white Range Rover, was intercepted by assassins who shot him in cold blood on Tuesday at Mahotas, the Mozambican Television said, citing eye-witnesses.
Timana was wanted for the murder of director of the Maputo Central Prison Jorge Microsse in 2005 and a number of kidnappings. One of his sons was also accused of being an accomplice.
Another son is serving 15 years in prison for kidnapping Ibrahim Gani, owner of the foodprocessing company Incopal.
