Gunners collect maximum points

Hardbody were the first to score two minutes before the breather through Michael Mageja who blasted home after being set up by the impressive Richard Jongwe.

Gunners responded two minutes from the oranges through Valentine Ndaba who did well to shoot a seater from outside the boot after being set up by Cliff Sekete as Hardbody defenders failed to clear the lines.

Fiyado ensured Gunners collected three points after he rose high and headed home a Sekete cross to hand former champions maximum points.

Gunners could have won by a bigger margin but their strikers were wasteful in front of goal.

It was a game of two halves as both teams took turns to dominate with Hardbody enjoying more possession in the first half before Gunners controlled the proceedings  in the second half.

Gunners’ Sekete was quiet the whole afternoon but did well to provide the two goals that made the difference.

It was Gunners’ fourth win of the season and in the process handing Hardbody their sixth defeat in the current campaign.

Gunners’ assistant coach Thanks Tengwe was not a happy man despite collecting the maximum points.

“The three points are okay but the boys wasted a lot of scoring opportunities which is costly to us.

“We need to sharpen our strikeforce. There is still a lot of work to do because our finishing is very poor.

“We should have finished them in the first half but we were hesitant in front of goal,” said Tengwe.

Tengwe, however, noted that they were never under pressure against a Hardbody side, as he knew they would win.

“I knew we would win, playing Hardbody was like fulfilling our fixture,” said Tengwe.

Hardbody coach Tavaka Gumbo remained a happy man despite losing three points to Gunners.

“We played well, we scored first but we allowed them to come back into the game and conceded two soft goals.

“Our defence let us down but I am happy with the result.

“We will wait for the window period to open so that we can beef up our squad,” said Gumbo.

The game started at a fast pace but only Hardbody’s Mageja miss with the keeper to beat and a speculative effort from Gunners’ Valentine Ndaba were worthy of note in the opening quarter of an hour.

Hardbody looked dangerous when going forward and in the 37th minute they could have scored the opener after Jongwe did well on the left side but his cross went begging.

Gunners put up an improved performance in the second half but their strikers were the biggest let down as they either shot wide or straight into the goalkeepers’ hands.
