ON-FIRE Gunners will today face another tough task when they host Flame Lily at Lafarge in what promises to be an exciting encounter in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league.
The former Premiership champions are coming into the game bubbling with confidence after dismissing Mushowani Stars 1-0 in their backyard in their last game and they will be anticipating a positive result again this afternoon.
Gunners coach Kudakwashe Masaraure said today’s game is a must-win as they seek to maintain their position and close the gap separating them from leaders Bindura United.
“It’s a must-win game for our side because we are ahead of Flame Lily by just one point and if they beat us they will be leading us by two points.
“So we need to beat them to remain on top of them.
“We want to maintain the position.
“If Mushowani wins we will go back to where we came from and we can’t afford that,” said Masaraure.
Masaraure is confident in his troops and said they were raring to go and last week’s victory against Mushowani had taken the team’s confidence to another level.
“The boys are ready, they are looking forward to the game and we are not under pressure.
“They are even confident after beating Mushowani at their home, it boosted their confidence a lot because no-one thought we would win,” Masaraure said.
Gunners will be missing their striker, Freddy Munyoro, due to suspension after accumulating three yellow cards in the past matches.
But the Gunners gaffer said they have enough ammunition and were not worried about his absence.
Flame Lily coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera said he had faith in his side and will be out to collect maximum points in their matches to remain among the top contenders for championship.
In other matches to be played today, Mushowani take on Royal Classic at Tsungubvi.
Pacesetters Bindura, who are four points clear of Gunners, will be hoping to stretch their lead as competition gets tougher in the league when they meet Commando at Chipadze.
In another promising match, Twalumba lock horns with Dstv Rangers at Dzivarasekwa.
Both teams will be looking for maximum points with Twalumba hoping to remain among the top teams while Rangers, who seem to have found their winning touch of late, will be expecting to continue with the fine run.
