Gunners out to stop Ngezi Platinum

THE Northern Region Division One Soccer League championship race continues today, with log leaders Ngezi Platinum hosting Gunners at Baobab in what promises to be an explosive game for the weekend.

With Ngezi proving to be a difficult team to beat in the league, all eyes will be on this game to see if Gunners will become the first team to defeat Ngezi and end their unbeaten run in 23 games.

Ngezi coach, Clifton Kadurira, said they expect a tough match.

“We will try our level best to collect maximum points. We know it’s going to be tough but we will try to get points.

“I think these guys are playing very well with a good team spirit, they are playing as a unit. Morale is high, everyone is prepared to play so it’s an advantage for us as the technical team.

“It’s going to be a tough game because all the teams we are playing want to beat us, so we have to prepare ourselves for the fight,” said Kadurira.

In their previous match, Ngezi Platinum drew 0-0 against Black Rhinos at One Commando and being at home today, Gunners should be prepared for stiff competition in the game.

The former Premiership champions are coming from a 0-1 defeat against Herentals, which saw them dropping to fourth place.

In other matches slated for today, Herentals hosts Mushowani at the National Sports Stadium.

Herentals coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, said there will be some changes to the team ahead of today’s encounter.

“I think these guys are being carried away with the big games. They concentrate more on the big games and when it comes to the so-called small teams they lack concentration.

“But what I have seen in the Northern Region there are no small teams.

“I have come up with a scenario where I have to change the players for different games because these players’ attitude is different.

“I have decided to rotate my players especially after a win because when we win we go on to lose the next match.

“We are certainly going to make some changes for tomorrow’s game and approach it with a positive mind. Mushowani is a big team so everyone is geared up and we will come out strong,” said Mutiwekuziva.
