a pretty big deal. Once again this week, we’ve seen how just one flash of inspiration can ruin an entire week for thousands of people as Gareth Bale’s last minute blockbuster strike gave Tottenham a 3-2 win at West Ham.
But those Spurs fans will be looking forward with the usual mixture of optimism and trepidation to this Sunday’s spicy derby with Arsenal, as both clubs chase Champions League football next season.
So who has enjoyed the best of the capital bragging rights so far this season?
Well, surprisingly given what many perceive as an awful season, it’s Arsenal who top the London mini-league standings — albeit on goal difference.
The five goals they struck against Tottenham and West Ham have made all the difference this time, even if Spurs are two places above them in the real Premier League table. Despite completing a double over Arsenal, Chelsea are trailing in the London League. They were beaten by West Ham back in December and then stunned at home by struggling QPR.
Fulham fans haven’t had much to boast to their mates about this season, having lost at Upton Park and Loftus Road, and 3-0 at home to Spurs.
But they have played fewer London derbies than the others, so have time to recover some lost local pride.
QPR victories have been rare this season, but when they have won it’s been against near neighbours.
If we extend the records of the London teams against one another over the past five seasons, it’s Tottenham who have enjoyed the most success.
They have won 19 of 39 matches since August 2008 and will be desperate to gain a 20th against their eternal rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon. — Mailonline.
