Guruve man sentenced to 20 years for raping teen (14)

A 44 -YEAR old man from Masoka Village, in Guruve has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping his 14-year-old daughter.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe revealed that the offender appeared before the Guruve Magistrates’ Court where it was revealed that the on 27 November 2024, in the afternoon, the 14-year-old girl was with her younger sister on their way to fetch water when they encountered the offender.

He dismissed her younger sister to go on ahead, claiming he needed to have a “small prayer session” with the victim so she could find work as a housemaid.

“After luring the victim to a secluded bushy area under this false pretence, the offender began to ‘pray’. However, he quickly abandoned his act and ordered the girl to lie down before sexually assaulting her. After the assault, he warned her not to disclose what had transpired.

“The matter came to light when the victim met a relative, who raised concern about her demeanour and dishevelled state. The victim recounted details about the assault to her relative, leading to the offender’s arrest,” reads the statement

The NPA noted that the criminal justice system is resolute in its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual violence face severe consequences for their heinous acts.
