Gutu gets $760 000 for devolution projects

GUTU Rural District Council has received $760 000 from Central Government to roll out devolution-related programmes, an official said yesterday.

The local authority’s chief executive Mr Alexander Mutembwa said the bulk of the funds will be used to construct recreational facilities and on investment promotion.

He said the projects (recreation facilities) were part of the five year strategic plan to nurture talent and promote the growth of sporting activities in the district.

Mr Mutembwa said they had also resolved to construct Makombo Stadium in Ward 34 under Mupandawana Town Board area.
“We applaud Government for rolling out the devolution concept. This a great opportunity for us as a district to grow economically.

“So far, council has agreed to use part of the $760 000 to construct Makombo Stadium in Ward 34 (Mpandawana).
“In addition, we will also drill boreholes, install water tanks, construct ablution facilities, changing rooms, install a parameter wall and do ground-levelling at the site,” he said.

The Herald understand that the latest development is a boost for the local authority which has since committed part of their $7 million annual budget to infrastructure development.
