Speaking at the official handover of the mobile clinic in Gutu last week, Masvingo provincial medical director Dr Robert Mudyiradima said the coming of a mobile clinic to service resettlement areas in Gutu would improve health delivery in the district.
Dr Mudyiradima said the mobile clinic would also save villagers seeking health services from travelling long distances to nearby health service centres in Gutu district.
“The coming of a mobile clinic to Gutu district was long overdue but is a welcome development especially considering that most villagers, especially in resettlement areas here were struggling to access HIV testing and counselling services,” Dr Mudyiradima said.
“We hope that the coming on board of the mobile clinic will improve the health delivery system in the entire district, especially remote resettlement areas.’’
Dr Mudyiradima decried that most villagers in Gutu were walking long distances to access health services with some even being forced to walk to Murambinda Hospital in Buhera district to access health services.
Medecins San Frontieres Operations Manager Dr Marc Biort said the introduction of the mobile clinic in Gutu was intended to intensify efforts to combat the spread of HIV and Aids especially among poor rural communities.
“The coming of the mobile clinic to Gutu district is a step in the right direction as we try to make sure that health services are closer to the people even those in remote areas,” said Dr Biort.
“We hope the mobile clinic will save people in this area who used to walk all the way to Murambinda Hospital to get medical attention.’’
Traditional leaders and senior Government officials in Gutu urged the local rural district council to shift its focus to road rehabilitation and maintenance to enable the mobile clinic to easily access all the four corners of the district.
