Harare Metropolitan acting governor Mr Alfred Tome last Friday handed over the agreement of sale to the church leaders on behalf of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo.
Mr Tome said the church members merited worship under hygienic conditions.
Government, he said, recognised the undying struggle by the church for people’s liberation through empowerment which is at the centre of President Mugabe’s vision.
Mr Tome said Government would give more land to the Johane Masowe Chishanu followers .
“So today I am telling you on behalf of the ministry that we will not stop until each and every one of you, including those who are not members of this church, have a place to stay,” he said.
He urged the followers of the church to vote wisely in the forthcoming elections.
One of the Johane Masowe leaders, Madzibaba Edward (Manyara) commended the Government for giving land to the church saying this would go a long way in alleviating accommodation crisis facing its members.
He said the church’s major problem was lack of designated worshipping areas which resulted in constant shifting of worship locations.
“This, he said, had a negative impact on the environment as it resulted in deforestation, littering and potential spread of water borne diseases like typhoid and cholera.
“What we want is to have areas where people come together for worship,” said Madzibaba Edward.
“This would prevent crime and theft from unscrupulous characters, as well as disease outbreaks as designated areas are permitted to perform construction work which would allow us to build ablution facilities.”
Madzibaba Edward emphasised on the need for environmental conservation saying the church was undertaking tree planting around places of worship as a church initiative.
“We urge members of the public to also adopt the same principle,” he said.
Madzibaba Lawrence (Katsiru), also one of the church leaders assured Mr Tome that the church was ideologically correct.
“We remain resolute and ideologically directed and will stand by you.
“We are very principled,” said Madzibaba Lawrence.
