MUSICIANS in Matabeleland South are gearing up for Independence Day celebrations with DJ Mavhusani (real name Vusumuzi Moyo), producing an electrifying song to mark the day.

The song titled Our Zimbabwe is part of his latest album and aims to remind young people of the struggle that led to independence as well as emphasise the importance of contributing positively to the country’s development.

DJ Mavhusani is also using the song to encourage underprivileged youths to step forward and embrace self-employment projects.

The Matabeleland South main Independence Day celebrations are set to take place at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda on April 18.

The DJ behind the hit track Dubula-Dubula expressed excitement about this year’s celebrations, and promised a vibrant display of music and dance from his latest album.

“We want to mark this year’s Independence Day celebration with our new song Our Zimbabwe,” said DJ Mavhusani.

“We want to remind the youth that independence was not easily attained, but was the result of a prolonged struggle that claimed the lives of many Zimbabweans.”

DJ Mavhusani said that his new song features Farai Mugadza, and urged youths in the province interested in music to reach out to him.

He stressed the importance of youths embracing the President’s philosophy, “Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabaninilo”, urging them to contribute positively to the country’s development and steer clear of drugs and substance abuse.

“I call on underprivileged youths to step forward, and let’s explore how we can support each other in the music industry. There’s an abundance of raw talent out there that needs nurturing,” said the soft-spoken musician.

He also encouraged youths to embark on self-employment projects and become responsible citizens of Zimbabwe.
