GWANDA will host the first Mr and Miss Matabeleland bodybuilding pageant next week, with the sport’s big names excepted to grace the occasion.

The competition will be held on April 29 at Mukhekhelezi Night Club at the Showgrounds.

Matabeleland South prominent bodybuilder and trainer Ntokozo Mahlangu is organising the event under his stable Captain Die Hard promotions.

The former Mr Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) and Mr Matabeleland, who is now a trainer at the recently established 626 Health Studio gym, confirmed the pageant.

“We are going to host Mr and Miss Matabeleland on 29 April. There’s also a category for Ms Fitness Figure. It’s my inaugural regional contest to be held in Gwanda, which includes all bodybuilders in Matabeleland,” said Mahlangu.

He said he was expecting big names to grace the contest, which would motivate young bodybuilders to take up the sport.

“Iam expecting professionals like Lovemore Munyamana, Givemore Marufu and Lazarus Shereni, who are top bodybuilders in the country, to come and contest. There’s hope for bodybuilders in Gwanda and Matabeleland as a whole as the contest is recognised at national level,” he said.

Mahlangu said he was planning to hold the contest on an annual basis and also planning a Mr and Miss Inter-provinces contest.

“I am looking for sponsors for this one. This month’s event is being funded from my pocket, so we are appealing to businesspeople to support us in helping grow the sport.”
