Gwanda man dies in accident

A GWANDA man died after he lost control of a vehicle before it veered off the road and overturned in a case of suspected speeding.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident which occurred on Thursday at around 5PM in Maphane area at the 131 kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

He said Elphas Moyo (26) of Spitzkop Suburb died upon admission at Gwanda Provincial Hospital while his two passengers sustained injuries.

“I can confirm that we recorded a fatal road accident which occurred in Maphane area at the 131 kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road. Elphas Moyo was driving a Toyota Mac X vehicle headed towards Gwanda with two passengers onboard.

“He lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road and overturned. Moyo was rushed to Gwanda Provincial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon admission. Preliminary investigations have shown that Moyo was speeding. As police we continue to urge motorists to adhere to road regulations in order to avoid loss of life,” he said.
